If you are looking for the perfect air compressor to get the job done, the Makita MAC700 Big Bore 2 HP Air Compressor is the answer for both professionals and do it yourself weekend warriors. It has advanced features that allow it to pump out more air using less power, refill faster than most models, and get the job done no matter what your work conditions are. Plus, it does all of this at an incredibly low noise level, just below the decibel level of the average kitchen blender.
It is the perfect answer for the contracting professional looking for a powerful compressor that can run a multitude of tools. The Makita Big Bore air compressor uses a specially designed piston that allows for greater bore and stroke, which results in the ability to deliver 130 PSI. The compressor gives you a high intake rate of 3.3 CFM at 90 PSI. It’s strong enough to run many models of nail guns, brad guns, and impact wrenches. Plus, it’s small enough that it can be taken to any job site. It is made with a solid 2.6 gallon tank that can withstand most job conditions. It has rugged legs that will hold it steady and even has a roll cage that doubles as a handle for extra protection, just in case.
According to the manufacturer, the MAC700 Big Bore operates at only 80 decibels. That is a level slightly above the average vacuum cleaner and just below the amount of noise made by the blender in your kitchen. That makes it the perfect solution for a basement or garage shop in your home. Unlike other models, you can actually utilize this air compressor without bothering the entire neighborhood. The secret to its quiet operation is the special Big Bore cast iron cylinder that delivers very deep bore for increased compression and faster recovery. This translates into more output, more efficiently, using less power. In fact, the unit uses a low Amp draw motor that greatly reduces the chances that you will trip a breaker while using the compressor on a standard outlet.
Unlike other compressors in its class, the Makita uses a 2 horsepower motor that is oil lubricated. But, don’t be fooled into thinking that this means high maintenance. Maintaining the unit is an absolute breeze with the conveniently placed oil drain and a sight glass that allows you to perform quick maintenance on the unit so you can get back to the job. Actually, the use of oil leads to a cooler operating temperature and less wear on the components – giving the unit an extremely long operating life.
The Makita Big Bore 2.0 HP air compressor is the perfect fit for your shop, as it is less than 2 feet tall and only 18 inches wide. This compact design coupled with the ability to deliver 150 PSI will quickly make it the your favorite air compressor and one of the most useful appliances in your shop.

Customer Reviews
“This is a quality compressor. In this day and age of plastic junk, I am surprised some of the reviews complained about wieght. The weight comes from steel, not plastic parts. The tanks are heavy steel as is the roll cage around the entire mechanism. The handle is in the center, so carrying it is well balanced.”
“I have not owned a compressor is many years. I looked long and hard for the best of all worlds: quality, size, price, and cfm. As an advanced and serious home workshop dude, this review is not written for the pros. But for a serious homeowner that appreciates quality tools and needs a general purpose compressor, I believe I found the perfect compressor.”
“Overall it seems like a nice quality machine. And very easy on the ears, just putters away. I’ll only use this occasionally, so will probably last quite awhile(I hope!). Was thinking of getting the DEWALT D55146 4-1/2-Gallon 200-PSI unit. But it was $350, and I didn’t think I needed anything that big and powerful. But I’m mostly using this for inflation purposes and blowing off a chainsaw. Maybe some light brad tacking. Nice light duty unit. “
“I purchased this unit to replace an oil-less pancake compressor that burned out. The Makita MAC700 is super! It has all the attributes of a large high quality oil-lube compressor. I am very pleased to report that the unit is as quiet as advertised. By comparison, the pancake compressor this unit replaced was DREADFULLY loud. I am impressed with the powerful low-rpm motor and the heavy duty oil-lube design. In my opinion, the longevity and quietness that an oil-lube compressor offers, far outweighs the time and slight inconvenience of routine maintenance. At this time, I cannot suggest any improvements to this machine. I love it!”
